The New Era Of Team Building – Remote and Virtual Team Building Activities
We see it in the movies all the time, epidemics, Geo storms, mast destruction.. But never really think that is possible. Enter COVID-19….
The business world has changed as we know it, and probably will permanently (I’m not going into the doom and gloom). Although, over time it will recover, it will flourish again, and i think there will be valuable and very positive learnings and experiences we will take away, and adapt to for the future.
There Certainly Is A Positive From A Negative.
Being a business owner myself i have never really experienced my staff not coming in to the office, and working from home. As i do this myself occasionally, but not very often, and call me “old school” that’s ok, I was always regimented where you went to the office and did your 8 hours. I have always felt that I focus better and far more productive when i am in the office, no distractions. It was like a switch, just like Sylvester Stallone in the arm wrestling movie “over the Top” where he turned his hat. That was his switch to compete, turn his game face on.
Time For Me To Wake Up!
I know many businesses have been doing this for years and working in a Virtual environment. Just not me, and many i speak to. So it has been happening in my business on and off, a day here a day there, but not full time over the last 6 months. Once again ENTER COVID-19!
Now we are all going to be working from home, How do we effectively communicate? How do we make decisions? How do we motivate? Most of all how do we stay connected? It’s easy to utilise Skype or Zoom, or pick up the phone. But we lose the connection, the bonding, the intimate relationships we have with out work mates that we all value and take for granted. So imagine you have a team of 20 staff all working from home solo. Each staff member may only talk to one or two, maybe more per day. What happens after 2 weeks? how many fellow work mates have they personally not connected with over that two weeks? How do you think that effects your business? Imagine over 1, 2 or 3 months? Your staff now have lost that trust, connection, face to face contact they were so used to having.
Enter Virtual Team Building (or if you want to call it Remote Team Building.)
I have been facilitating Team building events for over 20 years. We always have to be innovating new concepts, new team building activities to stay fresh and keep our clients coming back. I am very proud top say that we now have developed exactly what the market needs to stay connected in the new home office scenario. Designated Team Building activities for Virtual Teams! These are virtual Ice breakers, Virtual team bonding activities, Virtual Group problem solving. All done from the home office. It is the new age of Team Building!
Our online Virtual team building activities for teams, unites your team by inspiring them to be resourceful and communicate via video conferencing in small working teams, making group decisions, problem solving, actively participate in creative challenges, and generally have lots of fun! This will agglutinate the connection and bonding of your team so they can feel as one again, be part of the team again and not flying solo and isolated. I can highly recommend team building for virtual employees.
ENTER – Out of Office, Office Olympics
We all know that the Tokyo Olympics has been postponed, but that doesn’t mean your team can’t experience competing on the world stage and going for the gold. Office Olympics is virtual team building exercise that groups your team into teams of 3-5 members. They will compete against other teams you have created to win the glory by competing in a Virtual Team building Decathlon. The Decathlon will challenge your team to connect, be resourceful, communicate, problem solve and laugh, as they compete across the 10 events. Trivia, photo and video challenges via video conferencing, problem solving. Its a points game so the more points the better!
The Virtual Team building exercise is hosted by our Virtual team building app that allows them to login and work together. Our staff (Online referee) is also connecting with them as they compete to inspire, and spark some competitiveness in the teams. It’s just a great experience and so essential.
Virtual team building activities are here to stay, and as i said at the start, we will learn how to manage, adapt, and move forward for even after COVID-19 from the positive learnings in this environment. After all your team need to be happy, healthy, and feel valued to be productive and give you value for money. I have just given you the answer to do that….
